Pequia

Caryacar villasum

Closely related to pequi, a fruit in the same genus Caryacar, it is larger in size and grows in the Amazon, not the semi-arid Cerrado. It also has multiple tiny “thorns” between the yellow and flesh and the edible nut. Once cooked, pequia (or piquiá) is served with manioc flour, to accompany coffee, or as a side dish for beans, rice and meat.
