Platonia insignis
FRUIT NATIVE TO THE Amazon and the northern South America, it is found mainly in the state of Pará, between December and April. Curiously, it has become, for many, a symbol of the city of Teresina, capital of Piauí state. It has a thick, yellowish skin and a creamy, white pulp of intense and slightly acidic flavor, high in phosphorus and calcium. Very fragrant, the fruit can be eaten raw or used to prepare juices, jams, liqueurs, compotes and ice creams. It can also be used to enhance savory dishes: shrimp with bacuri sauce, for example, is a very common dish in Belém, the capital of Pará state. The oil extracted from its seeds has medicinal properties, serving as an anti-inflammatory and wound healing.
