Citrus reticulata Blanco x Citrus sinensis Osbeck
Called mexerica, tangerina or bergamota, depending on the region of the country, the Murcott is a hybrid of sweet orange and Citrus reticulata Blanco mandarin. Also known in English as honey tangerine, the fruit is aromatic and has a thin peel that is closely attached to the segments. It has a higher content of vitamin C than the ponkan variety. Good for fresh consumption and also to prepare juices, caipirinhas, marinades and cakes. In Brazil, the South and Southeast regions lead the production and consumption of the fruit. Best harvest: from July to October.
