Lactuca sativa
The biggest difference between curly and flat leaf lettuce varieties is the appearance of the leaves. Apart from that, they both share the same characteristics: better if consumed in January, March, or May to November, mild and refreshing flavor, and a good source of nutrients. Uses are also the same: in salads, juices, and sandwiches. Fun fact: originated in Asia, lettuce is considered a symbol of good luck in China, where it is served at birthday parties and in New Year’s celebrations.
