Malus domestica Borkh.
Just like Fuji apple, gala is crisp and juicy, with a sweet and slightly tangy flavor. It can be eaten fresh, and used in many recipes – from salads to juices, to pies, and cakes. The cultivation began in New Zealand in the 1970s; in Brazil, the main orchards are in the South region. Gala and Fuji account for about 90% of the national production of apples in Brazil. Best time of the year: from February to May.
