Garcinia intermedia (Pittier) Hammel
Native from Mexico and Central America, it is in the same botanical genus of bacupari. Other popular names in Portuguese – fruta-da-bolívia e fruta-de-macaco – give clues about two characteristics of this fruit: it is very common in the neighboring country, and it serves as food for the monkeys (macacos) living in the forest. About 1 inch in diameter, lemon drop mangosteen has a yellow rind when ripe and a whitish, juicy, sweet-and-sour pulp that is very aromatic. In Brazil, the cultivation and consumption are concentrated in the North and Northeast regions.
